Reading forward Noel Hunt defended referee Michael Oliver`s decision to send off Norwich captain Grant Holt at the weekend.
Holt saw red at the end of the first half for a late challenge on Ian Harte in a decision which infuriated Norwich boss Paul Lambert.
But Hunt, who scored in the 3-3 draw, said: "When I saw it first I thought it was a sending off.
"But I've heard from a few people it wasn't as bad as everyone thought.
"It's hard for a referee when it's a straight leg and it can be dangerous. Harty has a mark on his ankle and shin bone and it could have been serious.
"On another day it could have been a yellow."
