Harding joins up with Royals

Reading have bolstered their defensive options with the capture of Dan Harding on loan from Ipswich Town.

The former England Under-21 international has struggled for first-team opportunities at Portman Road and spent the first half of the season on loan at Southend United.

"At a time when the window is coming to a close, Dan will give us that extra element of competition and insurance going into what is a very critical stage of the season," manager Steve Coppell told the club's official website.

"He can do a good job for us anywhere on the left-hand side of the pitch and he is a player that I know well."

Meanwhile, the Royals have confirmed that defender Ivar Ingimarsson is to undergo an exploratory operation on his knee to discover the extent of a long-running problem.

"It would have been nice to wait until the summer but it's been irritating him enough to need it done now," added Coppell.

"We'll wait and see the outcome of that but clearly he's not playing this weekend."
