Good news for Royals as Griffin signs

Andy Griffin has dropped down a division after agreeing to leave Stoke City and join Reading for a nominal fee.

The 31-year-old right-back spent the second half of last season on loan at the Madejski Stadium, making 25 appearances for the Royals.

Griffin, who fell out of favour at Stoke after his on-pitch spat with team-mate Ricardo Fuller, has penned a two-year contract with Brian McDermott's side.

Chairman Sir John Madejski said: "This is very good news indeed for Reading and an extremely important signing.

"Andy was universally wanted by the manager, myself, the board and all our supporters as well.

"There was interest from other clubs but we've finally got our man. He was a real stalwart when he was on loan and we are delighted to have him."
