Brian McDermott's Reading moved above West Ham into second place in the npower Championship but the Royals' run of eight straight wins came to an end with a 1-1 draw at Doncaster.

McDermott's men could have gone level on points with leaders Southampton but were left fighting to avoid defeat after Kyle Bennett gave the hosts a 27th minute lead at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Alex Pearce headed home Ian Harte's free-kick in the 51st minute to claim a point for Reading, who are now two points adrift of Saints while Rovers remain rooted in the relegation zone.

Hull City jumped three places into the play-off zone with an emphatic 3-0 win at promotion rivals Cardiff.

Kevin McNaughton's sixth minute own goal helped the Tigers on their way and James Chester and Aaron Mclean made sure with further efforts in the 47th and 55th minutes respectively.

Chris Hughton's Birmingham dropped to eighth after a 3-1 defeat at Leicester. Wade Elliott's 20th minute penalty put the Blues ahead but Jermaine Beckford equalised on 34 minutes and late strikes from Jeffery Schlupp and Beckford again sealed the Foxes' win.

Jake Buxton headed home a Ben Davies free-kick deep into injury time as Derby grabbed a dramatic 1-0 win over neighbours Nottingham Forest at Pride Park.

Forest had Marcus Tudgay sent off in the last minute but the game looked destined to end goalless until Buxton's strike. The defeat leaves Forest four points clear of the relegation zone.
