    Doyle scan boosts Royals

    16 Jan 2007 - 08:40:36

Reading have been boosted by a scan showing that Kevin Doyle's hamstring injury was not as serious as was first feared, with the striker expected to be back in action within a month.

Doyle limped out of the 1-1 draw at Everton at the weekend, with Royals boss Steve Coppell fearing his ten-goal top scorer could be absent for a lengthy spell.

He said after the stalemate at Goodison Park: "It's a hamstring injury and who knows? It's right in the meat of the muscle and I think it's a couple of weeks at least.

"We have no history of him having an injury. We don't think it's serious, but you never know."

However, after Doyle had the problem scanned, Coppell told the club's official website: "We've had him scanned and it's better than we thought.

"He'll be out for four weeks at most."

Doyle has proved to be one of the best buys of recent years, having joined Reading for a mere £80,000 from Cork City 18 months ago.
