Doyle joins Premier League newboys Wolves in 6.5m club record deal

Wolves have unveiled Kevin Doyle in a club record £6.5m deal from Reading. The Midlands club have beaten off competition from half a dozen Barclays Premier League clubs to land the Republic of Ireland international on a three-year deal. Doyle held talks with Wolves boss Mick McCarthy and was shown around the facilities by Molineux officials over a week ago. Wolves met the £6.5m release clause in his contract and Doyle spent last week mulling over the move after Sunderland, Bolton and Fulham also showed interest in signing the player. Sportsmail understands any deal was also held up as the player had not recovered from a calf strain injury and was unable to undergo a medical. However the Wexford-born player was keen to link up with former Ireland boss McCarthy and Irish internationals Andy Keogh and Kevin Foley. The £6.5m sale of Doyle is also a club record for Reading and beats the previous £5.5 fee they received from Stoke City for Dave Kitson last season.
