Doyle: Better to come
01 Dec 2006 - 10:26:39
Reading striker Kevin Doyle says he has yet to hit top gear due to a leg injury, despite scoring seven times in the Premiership already this season.
The 23-year-old Irishman has helped the Royals make a fine start to life in the top-flight, but Doyle says he is still struggling for full fitness.
He told the Reading Evening Post: "My left quad is 25 per cent weaker than my right quad. That has been the case since the summer.
"One week it is fine, but then I have to miss a few training sessions because it hurts.
"Last week, I didn't train until Thursday, but I have been doing a strengthening programme with physio Jon Fearn and it has been okay this week.
"Personally, I don't think I've played my best stuff at all yet and hopefully there is a lot more to come."
Doyle joined Reading in the summer of 2005 from Cork City and has gone on to score 26 goals in 66 appearances for the Berkshire club.
