Coppell wants Sonko boost
05 Feb 2008 - 10:21:19
Reading boss Steve Coppell is hoping the return of Ibrahima Sonko from international duty can help revitalise their flagging fortunes.
The Royals have slipped close to the relegation zone in recent weeks while the defender has been away at the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal.
Sonko made a fleeting substitute appearance during last weekend's defeat to Bolton Wanderers but, with Ivar Ingimarsson suspended, he is expected to start at Everton on Saturday.
"He was desperate to be involved on Saturday," Coppell told the club's official website.
"I think his presence alone gives us more stature. We're a small side, and when we match up for set-pieces we're three or four inches smaller than most.
"But with Sonko in there it throws the odds in our favour. We need his aerial aggression and ability to win headers.
"The timing is significant. He can have a week of training, and the chance to recover from his trials and tribulations at the Cup of Nations."
