Coppell predicts Lita goals
30 Apr 2008 - 09:14:18
Striker Leroy Lita has been backed to fire the goals that will keep Reading in the Premier League by manager Steve Coppell.
The former England Under-21 striker was recalled from a loan spell at Championship side Charlton Athletic to make his first Royals appearance in two months during Saturday's goalless draw with Wigan Athletic.
Lita caught the eye with an energetic performance and Coppell is confident the 22-year-old frontman can find the net in the final two matches of the campaign.
Coppell is also keen to keep Lita at the Madejski Stadium despite speculation suggesting he will be offloaded in the summer.
"He fitted straight back in," he told the club's official website.
"He's got goals in him, I can guarantee that. He might not have been outstanding at Wigan but he fitted right back in to what we're about.
"He's very much been part of our club's success in the last two years. He's as proud as anybody to be playing and privileged to be playing at this level.
"We all want to be here next year."
Reading are currently one point clear of Birmingham City in the final relegation place and take on Tottenham and Derby County in the final weeks of the campaign.
