Coppell cools promotion talk

Reading manager Steve Coppell is refusing to contemplate securing automatic promotion despite Tuesday's 1-0 win over Doncaster Rovers.

Dave Kitson's first goal since rejoining the Royals on loan saw Coppell's side close in on second-placed Birmingham City.

Reading are now four points behind the Blues but do have a game in hand.

Speaking bout his 1,000th game as a manager, Coppell said: "It was important to get the right result, but the performance was very pleasing.

"It's still down to any team who has a significant run and we, like a number of sides, are capable of that.

"I think I've got some really good players and, despite our recent results at home, we're still in a very good position.

"I don't think anybody knows what to expect from the teams at the top of the table and it (automatic promotion) is still there to be taken."
