Brynjar blow for Royals
17 Dec 2007 - 11:34:07
Reading midfielder Brynjar Gunnarsson could have played his last game of the year after picking up a knee injury in the first half of Saturday's 1-1 draw at Birmingham City.
Royals boss Steve Coppell fears that the Icelandic star could miss the entire festive programme with the problem.
He said: "He's got stitches on his knee. He's very stiff and sore and he's going to be out for a while, a couple of weeks at least."
Meanwhile, Coppell was delighted with Stephen Hunt's display at St Andrew's with the all-action midfielder capping a fine performance by grabbing the equaliser from the penalty spot.
He added: "I'd say Stephen typifies the spirit of our team with his work-rate and effort. That's a man who was a free transfer from Brentford three or four years ago.
"It just shows what a professional can achieve if he's really dedicated and applies himself.
"We've played poorly away from home on occasions but we've been more competitive in the last couple of matches.
"We should have got something from the Manchester City game and it was probably a fair result at St Andrew's."
