Young Bear needs help to get to his Field of Dreams

11 December 2010 11:11
Sam Ashforth is a Rangers-daft young footballer living in New Zealand who has been offered a trial with the club but he needs a helping hand to take him on the next stage of his journey. To get to train with the club for the trial he and one of his parents need to raise a good few thousand dollars.   The family are not looking for a hand-out - as you can see below in the email from Sam's dad they and Sam himself are busy fundraising.   For an ordinary family it is a lot of money and they would then face some tough decisions if Sam was taken on.  But, it is a marvelous opportunity for a young man to play for the club he loves and they are intent on getting over in April.   You can make a donation here - http://tinyurl.com/BlueFieldOfDreams         This is a link to Sam on the local TV station -     http://www.3news.co.nz/Youngsters-chance-with-Rangers-football-side/tabid/309/articleID/180460/Default.aspx     I've talked on the phone with Sam's stepdad since he got in touch and would encourage Kiwi Bears to get along to the movie night in December and Race Night in February which are being organised.  A website is being set up and once that is active we will post out the details on our email list.   We'll also get details worked out for punters supporting the race night by buying horses and sponsoring races.         Hi Follow Follow,   My name is Paul Martin, my step-son Sam Ashforth has got a trial with Glasgow Rangers Football Team in Scotland next year, April 2011.    We are currently doing fundraising so we can Send Sam over to Murray Park, Scotland.    I have had a few emails from Rangers supporters advising me to contact Follow Follow.   We are in the process of organising a couple of fund raising nights, One being a movie evening at the Petone Lighthouse Cinema (December 16th), and the other being a Horse Racing Night, Petone FC Club rooms (Feb 26th 2011), We are doing fundraising for these events.    We was wondering if Follow Follow would be able to donate/help out in anyway towards a raffle, spot prize or a bigger prize for the horse racing night.     Sam is a 12 yr old boy and goes to Maungaraki school in Lower Hutt, Wellington, New Zealand,  he plays for a local team, Petone Soccer team, and has done for the past 3 years.    Last year he was the joint top goal scorer with 24 goals, their team (Petone 11th grade promo) went on to win the bowl cup final. Sam also got selected for the Wellington Federation squad.   This year Sam was voted Most Valuable player (MVP) for this team, as well as the top goal scorer, he scored 52 goals in all League and Cup games, there team won the Shield Cup Final, won their Super Six League, lost one game all season, and then went to Taupo for the Global Games Tournament where they played teams from all over Nz and Oz, and won the cup. Sam has been picked for the regional talent centre (district reps) and his highlight was to be offered a trial with Glasgow Rangers.   Below is a link to Sam on TV3,     http://www.3news.co.nz/Youngsters-chance-with-Rangers-football-side/tabid/309/articleID/180460/Default.aspx   All sponsors and donators to the fundraising nights will be advertised on Sam's support Page on FB as well as his Blog page, we also putting an advert in the paper when he goes to thank all parties involved and also Sam is getting a T-shirt made up with all companies logos, which he will wear to the UK Worldwide advertisement.   Sam originally comes from Northern Ireland, and is a Rangers support, as you will tell from the TV3 news clip. Thank you for taking the time to read this email, We hope to hear from you at your convenience.   Kindest regards   Paul and Allison, On behalf of Sam
