Wylde up for title challenge

Gregg Wylde claims he has the bottle for his first title battle as Rangers bid to retain their Clydesdale Bank Premier League crown in the coming weeks.

The 19-year-old earned his second start against PSV Eindhoven in the Europa League this month, before following up his European outing with a winner's medal as Rangers defeated Celtic in last week's Co-operative Insurance Cup final.

The Scottish champions will turn their focus back to league business after the international break and Wylde has told boss Walter Smith he can handle the pressure of a tense title run-in, saying: "If I play more games and help Rangers win the league, I'll be happy, even if it means sitting on the bench again at times."

He added: "I do hope we can win the league come the end of the season.

"I'm fit and raring to go and hoping I'll be picked in the remainder of the games.

"Players like Lee McCulloch help me through it."

Retaining his place in the side means battling Vladimir Weiss - on loan from Manchester City - for the jersey.

He added: "The boys are coming back from injury but hopefully I can keep my place on the left side.

"It's a bit of a fight between myself and Vlad to be honest. Hopefully I can make that place my own.

"I've been on the bench and then I got called up to play against PSV and Celtic and you can't beat that. I'll be happy to play more games."
