Whittaker could face surgery
24 Sep 2008 - 07:22:30
Rangers defender Steven Whittaker could face a further spell on the sidelines should he require surgery on a knee injury picked up on the opening day of the season.
The 24-year-old full-back has missed the last five games after picking up the problem back in August.
But, despite resting the injury for the past six weeks, Gers manager Walter Smith has suggested that surgery might now be required.
"Whittaker has a knee injury and it may be that he needs an operation. We are not quite certain," he revealed.
"It would be a minor one if it is needed, but obviously it rules him out for the next few weeks."
