Whittaker wants success in Europe

Steven Whittaker admits Rangers would love to achieve success again in Europe - and feels they have a foundation to build on.[LNB] Whittaker says the team effort from the gritty stalemate with Manchester United two weeks ago is the confidence booster Rangers need to ensure last year's disappointment in Europe - when they finished bottom of their Champions League group - is not replicated this year.[LNB]He said in Rangers News: "We should take confidence from the Manchester United result in the coming games, and hopefully we can build on it.[LNB]"The manager went for three in the centre of defence, with me and Kirk Broadfoot in the full-back positions and it worked really well. We had a few breakaways and on another day we might have made one of them count.[LNB]"But it was still a great result. It was a great team effort."[LNB]Rangers travel to Aberdeen on Sunday before facing Turkish champions Bursaspor next Wednesday, and Whittaker knows the importance of Rangers getting off to a good start at home in the Champions League.[LNB]"In our home games last season we didn't do so well, so we are hoping to do better this time around," he said.[LNB]"Hopefully we can score a few goals at Ibrox. They obviously lost heavily last time out and the scoreline was maybe a bit higher than I thought it would be.[LNB]"We don't read too much into that result because Bursaspor are in the Champions League for a reason and they will clearly be a dangerous side."[LNB]With Bursaspor hurting after their 4-0 defeat to Valencia in the club's debut on Europe's big stage, Rangers will look to inflict more pain.[LNB]The Turks then have a double header against Manchester United with little hope of getting anything from either of those ties - a fact that puts added emphasis on the importance of a Rangers victory at Ibrox.[LNB]Whittaker said: "We have had some great moments in Europe in my time and we would love some more."
