Whittaker raring to go again

Rangers full-back Steven Whittaker and the rest of his frustrated team-mates are keen to return to action in a bid to strengthen their grip on top spot in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League standings.

The Scottish champions have played just one domestic game in the last month - the 1-1 draw at Inverness - because of severe weather conditions and are desperate for a return to winning ways. Despite the lack of action, Rangers remain top of the table at Christmas but now face trips to Motherwell and then St Johnstone before facing rivals Celtic on January 2.

"Hopefully the game will be on this Sunday and we can get a positive result to take into the next two fixtures," said Whittaker.

"We've got a few away games coming up and our away form has been not bad so hopefully we can continue that.

"The Old Firm games are always important, no matter what stage you're at and where you are points-wise.

"We're on top just now and we want to stay there so it's important we get a positive result."
