Weiss backing Gers for title

Vladimir Weiss expects Rangers to be crowned Scottish champions this season after claiming they have the best players in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

The winger admits the Ibrox side are still smarting following their defeat to Hearts at the weekend but has every faith in their ability to bounce back against Hibernian on Wednesday night.

The on-loan Manchester City youngster added: "It's not going to be easy but if we play well, I think we've got the best squad in the SPL at the moment. If we carry on playing well, we should win the league."

"After the disappointment of Saturday, we need to keep our heads up. There are a lot of games coming up now."

Weiss accepts that Hearts - who are just two points behind the Light Blues - must now be regarded as serious title contenders along with Celtic but still firmly believes the reigning champions will come out on top again.

"We need to get the three points and to bounce back. I think we played really well against Hearts, especially in the first half. We had two or three good chances to score and the confidence is still there.

"It was a very disappointing result for us but we've still got two games in hand over Celtic and hopefully everything goes well for us."

Weiss will remain at Ibrox until end of the season and still has no idea whether an extended stay in Glasgow could happen when that deal expires.

"I don't know, it's a bit early to talk about that," said the 21-year-old. "Manchester City is my home club but my time at Rangers at the moment is maybe the best season I've had in my career so far.

"What happens after this season, I don't know. It's up to (City manager) Roberto Mancini whether I'm in his plans for next season.
