Weir aiming for one more year

Veteran Rangers central defender David Weir is hoping to agree a new one-year contract with the SPL champions to remain at Ibrox next season.

The 40-year-old joined the Gers in January 2007 from Everton and has since racked up 177 appearances for the Glasgow giants.

He told the club's official website: "My first option was to stay on if I could, but I was obviously waiting to see what happened with the gaffer (Walter Smith).

"If he stayed and he thought I could play on, then it was always in my mind I would.

"If he believes I can play on then that's the most important thing. I've always trusted the gaffer's judgement."
