Weir: We have to be up for battle

Rangers have already suffered shock defeats to both St Mirren and Inverness Caledonian Thistle this season - two clubs also facing a relegation dogfight. The Glasgow giants know time is fast running out as they attempt to close the gap on Celtic and make a late bid for the Scottish Premier League title. And Weir, appointed following Barry Ferguson's suspension from the club, is well aware the record against teams at the wrong end of the table has left a lot to be desired. "Of course it's a concern," he said. "You have to look at where all your points have been dropped and try to remedy that and make sure it doesn't happen again. "We have dropped points against St Mirren and Inverness, and Falkirk have the capability of causing us problems as well. "So we have to be on top of our game and up for the battle. "Every game is tough. That's not going to change from now until the end of the season. "That's just the way it is and it makes for a good league, a competitive league. "It shows that anyone on their day can beat anybody else. "Sunday is going to be a big game for us - and a tough one." Rangers will be without deposed former captain Ferguson and Allan McGregor after the Scotland pair were suspended without pay for two weeks following their antics while on international duty midweek. That means goalkeeper Neil Alexander - who has not featured since the 3-0 win over Hibernian in September last year - has been recalled, and Weir is confident the experienced shot-stopper will be able to cope with being thrown into the action on Sunday. Weir said: "He is an international goalkeeper. When he has come in, he has done very well. "It's only been Allan's form that has kept him out. There is a ready replacement there for Allan. "Barry will create a gap, which will give an opportunity to someone as well." Following the events of the last 48 hours, Weir - who will be 39 next month - admitted: "You never know what is going to happen in football, you can never rule anything out. "There are disappointing things that happen, as well as good things. "But you can never predict what's going to happen next."
