Weir enjoying Gers' tough test

The Light Blues complete their tour of Germany on Tuesday night with a friendly against SC Wiedenbruck before stepping up the intensity in this weekend's Emirates Cup with matches against Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal. They then play Premier League sides Manchester City and Portsmouth before the Scottish Premier League season kicks off. Weir believes such opposition will be ideal ahead of Rangers' Champions League campaign. Weir told his club's official website: "There is no doubt these games will be tough but that is what you want ahead of the new season. "You need to push yourself at this stage and playing the likes of Arsenal will give us an indication of what we can expect in Europe this season." Rangers have improved their match sharpness in Germany, beating Nurnberg 2-0. Weir added: "It's great to be back with the boys again and the atmosphere with the camp has been really good. "A lot of hard work has been put in while we have been over here and the fact we beat Nuremberg in our first game was a another wee boost. "As a defender, it was nice to keep a clean sheet and our second-half performance was good. "It was great to see Naisy (Steven Naismith) get on the scoresheet and Thommo (Kevin Thomson) also got a run-out. "He is almost like a new signing for the club as he was out for so long but everybody is delighted he is back. "But overall the trip has been really good and we are all looking forward to the games that are coming up before the competitive games begin."
