Walters hopes Rangers land Liverpool tie

Mark Walters would love to see his former clubs Rangers and Liverpool paired with each other in Friday's Europa League draw.

Both sides are in the pot for the last 32 after Rangers parachuted into the competition following a third-place finish behind Manchester United and Valencia in the Champions League.

"It would be a great game, not only for Rangers but for British football," said Walters.

"The English teams have a much bigger budget to deal with so it would be good to see them pitted against each other.

"I think it would be a classic game and great to watch."

And Walters believes now would be as good a time as any for Rangers to face Roy Hodgson's men.

He said: "I don't think they'd have a better chance than at the moment. Liverpool are in a transitional period.

"The one thing about Rangers is they are hard to beat, they are pragmatic in their approach to games and would have as great a chance to get a result than ever before.

"It would be a good game, a tactical game and I think it would be very tight. It would depend on who Liverpool had available."
