Veteran Weir shelves contract talk

The veteran defender continues to defy the odds and has been a rock in the heart of the defence once again for the Ibrox side this term.[LNB]Despite celebrating his 39th birthday this coming Sunday, Weir has no plans to hang up his boots just yet, claiming the "pleasure outweighs the pain" most of the time.[LNB]Whether he will continue his career at Rangers remains to be seen, however, with Weir insisting he is not even thinking of contract talks while the Scottish Premier League title and Scottish Cup remain up for grabs.[LNB]He said: "I will keep playing as long as I can, there is no doubt about that. I think I'm sensible enough to realise that.[LNB]"But the priority just now is to get to the end of the season and be successful - that's the most important thing.[LNB]"Of course, I would think about staying here but I don't spend any time thinking about it just now.[LNB]"I've got more than enough on my plate and there are more important issues just now that we should be focusing on.[LNB]"It deserves all our attention to be honest."[LNB]Saturday's showdown with Celtic at Ibrox has been billed as the game which could ultimately decide the destination of the championship.[LNB]But, when put to Weir that it will be the most important Old Firm derby he has played in, the centre-half claimed there is no such thing as an unimportant Old Firm derby.[LNB]"The next one is always the most important," he said. "I've played in a few now and, regardless of the circumstances, they are all important.[LNB]"This one has added importance due to the situation in the league and how close it is.[LNB]"But I don't think you can ever go into an Old Firm game and not be aware of how important it is to so many people."[LNB]As for deciding the title, Weir insists success on Saturday will not necessarily guarantee silverware come the end of the season.[LNB]He added: "Both teams would agree that they've got three tough games after it and, the way the season has been, there has been points dropped against other teams.[LNB]"I'm sure Celtic would agree that the team that wins the game, regardless if it's them or us, I don't think there is anything guaranteed after that."[LNB]However, Rangers have won their last six games - their best run all season - and Weir sees no reason why they cannot win their next five and claim a domestic double.[LNB]He said: "We are definitely capable. Whether we do it or not is up to us.[LNB]"There are a lot of teams and a lot of players who are going to have a say in that so I would never say it's going to be the case.[LNB]"But it's definitely a possibility and it's within our control."[LNB][LNB]
