Rangers suspended Derek Llambias, Barry Leach and Sandy Easdale as the new regime added leading fan representatives to major roles in the new decision-making process at Ibrox.

The club announced that chief executive Llambias and finance director Leach, who are both close associates of shareholder and Newcastle owner Mike Ashley and were both voted off the plc board on Friday, had been suspended along with football club chairman Easdale, who was never on the plc board.

The club announced on their official website that they had added Paul Murray, John Gilligan and Douglas Park to the football board following their appointment as plc directors.

There were also changes to the board of Rangers International Football Club (RIFC) - the plc arm at Ibrox.

Rangers Supporters Trust (RST) spokesman Chris Graham, 38, has been added along with John Bennett, the 51-year-old director of European Equities at Henderson Global Investors.

Meanwhile, James Blair has also been named company secretary. Blair - a solicitor with 30 years' experience - is partner in Edinburgh law firm Anderson Strathern LLP and also a member of fan-ownership group Rangers First.

Both the RST and Rangers First played a key role in mobilising supporters to purchase shares ahead of the shareholder vote sparked by Dave King's requisition.

King, Murray and Gilligan were all voted on to the plc board on Friday, although the former is awaiting fit-and-proper clearance from the stock exchange and football authorities.

A club statement read: "Rangers Football Club announce today that Derek Llambias, Barry Leach and Sandy Easdale have been suspended from their duties pending an investigation.

"It is also noted that Mr Llambias and Mr Leach, along with Sandy Easdale, have been advised that a resolution to remove them as directors of the company has been received by the company.

"A meeting may be required for this purpose but it is hoped that this will not prove necessary.

"Acting chairman Paul Murray, fellow directors Douglas Park and John Gilligan, and the club's head of football administration Andrew Dickson have been appointed to the board of the company."

In response to Rangers' announcement, Easdale's spokesman Jack Irvine issued a statement through Press Association Sport which read: "We are surprised at the announcement as you cannot suspend a director under the law of Scotland.

"We also note that they talk about an investigation. Sandy Easdale welcomes that as he has absolutely nothing to fear."

On the plc additions, Murray said: "We are delighted to announce the further strengthening of the RIFC board following Friday's general meeting.

"John's corporate and financial experience and track record will prove invaluable, whilst Chris and James have been appointed in accordance with the board's commitment to meaningful fan representation and in order that they can use their abilities to contribute to the company."
