Thomson unconcerned by Brown ban

Brown was controversially dismissed during Sunday's clash at Ibrox following a tussle with Kyle Lafferty but his appeal was thrown out on Thursday when referee Dougie McDonald stood by his original decision.[LNB]Despite the Old Firm divide, Thomson and Brown remain close friends from their time together at Hibernian but the Rangers midfielder was reluctant to be drawn into the debate over the sending off.[LNB]"It's a situation that doesn't really involve me to be honest," said Thomson.[LNB]"Scott's a big boy and he can take the consequences. You never want to see an opposition player getting sent off or suspended but he is in that situation."[LNB]Thomson has had his injury worries to contend with during his time with the Scottish champions but believes he is close to hitting top form again.[LNB]He said: "I feel as though over the last month or so that I've been getting back to top speed and felt I had a good performance against Hibs a few weeks ago.[LNB]"I was a bit frustrated that the game against St Johnstone was postponed because I was starting to get into top gear. So I was delighted to continue that against Celtic."[LNB]A last-gasp winner from Maurice Edu allowed Rangers to restore their 10-point lead over Celtic at the summit of the SPL.[LNB]But, despite the gulf between the Glasgow giants, Thomson was sticking to the party line about the title race being far from over.[LNB]He said: "It was an important goal and we knew before the game that we had to win the game.[LNB]"We also knew that the pressure was on Celtic to try and catch us.[LNB]"But we certainly don't feel as a team, or as a football club, that the title race is over.[LNB]"There is a long way to go and a lot of games to play so we certainly won't be taking our foot off the gas."[LNB]Next up are a St Mirren side who face Rangers in the Co-operative Insurance Cup final later this month, having already played each other four times this season.[LNB]And, in a week where the possibility of expanding to a 16 team SPL was mooted, Thomson admitted: "It does get a wee bit frustrating playing the same team time and time again.[LNB]"You want to play different teams but it's a huge game for us and we are looking forward to it.[LNB]"We are at one end of the table and St Mirren are at the other so they will be fighting for points as much as we are.[LNB]"Gus MacPherson has got a good side there and they are well-organised and tough to beat."[LNB][LNB]
