Thomson relishing next season

And the midfielder has vowed to work through the summer to ensure he will be ready to join the rest of the squad for pre-season training as he edges closer to his comeback. A promising campaign was brought to an abrupt end when the 24-year-old suffered a cruciate injury back in November. Thomson has been making good progress with Murray Park physios since then but says playing no part as Rangers claimed the SPL and Homecoming Scottish Cup was hard to take. "No player likes being injured by any means but it's actually been quite quick," he said of the seven-month lay-off. "But, because of the magnitude of the games, any player here would give their right arm to be involved in those games, especially myself. "So it's been quite tough in the last few weeks, especially now that I'm getting back to feeling like a footballer again. "I'm putting football boots on, I'm going out and doing a bit of training, I'm running and I'm getting fitter and fitter by the day." Thomson hopes the work he is doing now will give him the edge over the rest of the squad when they reconvene after what was a gruelling campaign. He told Rangers World: "It's been at the back of mind thinking fitness is all down to the individual, it's how much you put in. "I've never shirked hard work, I enjoy a good spell. I prefer to run on the park than around hills but I know where I'm at, I know I need to get fit. "A wee bit of endurance under my belt over the summer will hopefully stand me in good stead. "The boys have had a long, hard season and deserve their break. "The whole point of pre-season is getting fit and hopefully I'll be fit from day one, rather than needing the three or four weeks to get fit. "Hopefully I'll have a wee edge on the boys."
