Spirit pleases proud Smith

Rangers boss Walter Smith was pleased with the character his players showed in the Champions League win over Stuttgart at Ibrox on Wednesday.

The Gers fell behind to their Bundesliga opponents but showed great spirit to win the game thanks to strikes by Charlie Adam and Jean-Claude Darcheville.

Smith told the club's official website: "I'm delighted we managed to get the win.

"We made a shaky start which was maybe understandable as we had many players without Champions League experience.

"However, when they scored the players didn't let it affect them and they came back very well.

"Character is something we're trying to build here. We're tested every week. We were tested at Tynecastle last Saturday and failed but we had a different test tonight and we handled it so it's a big result for us in that regard."
