Smith rules out Gers pair

Rangers manager Walter Smith has revealed that Chris Burke and Steven Naismith will miss Thursday's UEFA Cup semi-final first leg clash against Fiorentina through injury.

Forward Naismith and winger Burke picked up problems during Sunday's Scottish Cup semi-final victory over St Johnstone and face spells on the sidelines.

Naismith injured his knee at Hampden Park, while Burke suffered an ankle knock.

"It doesn't look like they will be able to feature in either of the Fiorentina games or against Celtic this Sunday," Smith told the club's official website.

The injury-hit Gers are already without goalkeeper Allan McGregor, forwards Charlie Adam, Lee McCulloch and DaMarcus Beasley, while midfield pair Barry Ferguson and Kevin Thomson are suspended.
