Smith relief at derby fortune
04 Jan 2010 - 08:42:56
Rangers manager Walter Smith admitted the SPL leaders were lucky to take a point from Sunday's 1-1 Old Firm derby draw with Celtic.
Scott McDonald headed Celtic into a 79th minute lead before Lee McCulloch's reply earned a share of the spoils for the visitors.
Celtic had a first-half effort from Marc-Antoine Fortune chalked for off for a foul on keeper Allan McGregor and afterwards Smith admitted that fortune had favoured his side.
"We were very fortunate to get a draw," he conceded.
"Celtic played very well. It was a tough afternoon for a lot of our boys.
"I felt the second half we did a little bit better.
"We are delighted to have got a point from a game we should not have. We were not with the pace of the game at all."
