Smith regrets Gers exit

Rangers boss Walter Smith cut a disconsolate figure after seeing his side crash out of the Champions League after suffering a 3-0 home defeat at the hands of Lyon.
The Gers just needed a draw at Ibrox to make it through to the knockout stages, but were handed a lesson in finishing by the French champions and must make do with a UEFA Cup spot.
Smith said afterwards: "The margin of error is the Champions League is very tight. We didn't play that badly overall, we just lacked a cutting edge when we went into the last third of the pitch.
"I don't think we will use the Champions League games as preparation for the UEFA Cup.
"We are disappointed we are in it after getting the opportunity to stay in the Champions League. We wanted to be in the last 16, so it's no real consolation that we have the UEFA Cup to play for.
"It's been an experience for us in the sense that when we started out we weren't sure how we would do. We have improved since the start of the season."
