Smith not stepping aside
31 May 2009 - 12:07:04
Walter Smith dismissed reports that he is ready to step aside as Rangers manager following their Scottish Cup Final success over Falkirk.
Speaking after Saturday's 1-0 win at Hampden Park, Smith denied suggestions that he is preparing to hand over the reins to assistant manager Ally McCoist.
Nacho Novo's strike in the early stages of the second half wrapped up a league and cup double for the Gers.
"There's nothing to clear up so we will have to wait and see what happens," said Smith.
"But I want to carry on lifting trophies so I will try to keep doing that.
"It's been an enormous effort to win the championship and it was a tremendous high for them last week and one of the dangers of this cup final was can they reach that high again.
"Because of that I knew it was always going to be very difficult and I thought it would take something like a goal like that today to win it.
"Falkirk are a difficult team to play against because they pass the ball around well."
