Walter Smith has backed number two Ally McCoist to succeed him as Rangers manager when he decides to end his Ibrox tenure.
Smith, 60, has no plans to leave the Glasgow club on the back of a superb season which has seen them secure the CIS Insurance Cup, reach the UEFA and Scottish Cup Finals and be installed as favourites to win the Scottish Premier League title.
But the veteran former Scotland manager believes the club has a ready-made replacement in McCoist when he steps down.
Smith brought the former Gers striker back as his assistant when he returned in January 2007.
"There is nothing set about Ally's future," he said.
"If it happened like that then I would be really pleased, but there is no intention on my part to maybe win four trophies and then leave.
"McCoist is different. A guy like myself and Kenny McDowell have worked our way up through the system from reserve team coaching, but for Ally, it is all new on a full-time basis."
