Smith leaps to Boyd defence

Rangers manager Walter Smith has defended Kris Boyd following claims that striker dived during Wednesday's Co-operative Insurance Cup victory over Queen of the South.

Boyd was booked after going to ground when attempting to round the Queens goalkeeper when his side were 1-0 up in a game they went on to win 2-1.

The striker was jeered by home fans after two more penalty shouts during an incident-packed tie.

"I don't think he was thinking for a minute that he would get a penalty for it," said Smith.

"But if the referee feels that it is worthy of a caution then so be it.

"I'm delighted with every referee decision!"
