    Smith lauds Boyd landmark

    06 Dec 2009 - 10:33:14

Rangers manager Walter Smith paid tribute to Kris Boyd after the striker racked up his 150th Scottish Premier League goal in Saturday's 3-1 win over Falkirk.

The 26-year-old former Kilmarnock hitman netted the two opening goals for the Glasgow giants in a comfortable victory at Falkirk Stadium.

The brace has left Boyd just seven goals shy of Celtic legend Henrik Larsson's all-time top-flight record.

"It's a terrific level for him to reach," said Smith. "He played well today, as he has been doing for us in a lot of the games recently.

"He has got his goals and as long as he continues to get them, that's the main thing.

"When you look at the age he is and the opportunity he has to keep adding to that tally, it's a fantastic achievement for a player to have scored that number of goals."

Meanwhile, Smith revealed that Boyd was substituted two minutes before his side earned a second-half penalty and therefore unable to claim his hat-trick has he had picked up a thigh strain.

"He was injured, he's got a thigh strain," he explained. "He will obviously be a doubt for Wednesday's (Champions League) game against Sevilla.

"Do you think for a minute Boyd would have come off on two goals if he wasn't injured?"
