Smith denies Boyd exit claims
01 Jul 2008 - 07:05:43
Rangers manager Walter Smith has played down reports suggesting that Kris Boyd will leave Ibrox this summer.
The Scotland international is believed to have slipped even further down the pecking order following Smith's decision to bring in three new strikers since the end of the last campaign.
Boyd struggled to hold down a starting place last season, but Smith has denied claims that adding Kenny Miller, Kyle Lafferty and Andrius Velicka to his squad will lead to departure of the 25-year-old striker.
"We've never said we would to let him go," he said.
"Clubs are free to bid for a player, but it's not always the case that we're prepared to let him go."
Meanwhile, the Gers boss has also suggested he plans to bring in more new players as he looks to bolster a squad that lost the Scottish Premier League title and UEFA Cup Final in heartbreaking fashion at the end of the last season.
"The transfer deadline's got two months to go yet, so there's bound to be a bit of movement here and there," added Smith.
