Smith admits to Boyd error

Rangers manager Walter Smith has admitted that he made a mistake in rushing striker Kris Boyd back into the side after hernia surgery.

The 26-year-old Scotland international was left on the bench for the 3-1 win over Aberdeen on Wednesday evening, having failed to find the net in his last five games.

Smith admitted: "On reflection I think I've been a bit unfair to Kris Boyd because he went straight back into the team after his hernia operation.

"In hindsight maybe we should have let him get his fitness levels up.

"We have a break now and hopefully that will allow him to come back all the better for it against Dundee United."
