Smith accepts Rangers point
11 Feb 2010 - 10:23:49
Manager Walter Smith admitted Rangers had failed to hit any great heights during Wednesday's 1-1 draw with Motherwell and was relieved to leave Fir Park with a point.
Kris Boyd's equaliser 10 minutes from full-time ensured the Gers did not lose, but Celtic's own 2-0 win over Hearts saw them cut the lead of their Old Firm rivals at the top of the table to eight points.
"We fought very hard for the draw tonight and that's one good thing about our team. They never give up and they battled well," said Smith.
"We didn't play at all well in the first half and we were off the pace. It was as poor as we have been for a long while.
"But we picked up a bit in the second half and managed to get back into the match after one or two half chances.
"I don't think we can argue with the result overall after our first-half performance and we need to do better in the early stages of games.
"That's a big disappointment for us. We've been slow to get going lately and that's something we'll need to look into."
