Smith unsure over takeover

Rangers manager Walter Smith admits he still has no idea whether a takeover will happen after meeting prospective new owner Craig Whyte. The veteran boss met with the Scottish tycoon last Friday, as he reportedly edges closer to a buy-out of the Scottish champions. Smith will be replaced by his assistant, Ally McCoist, when he quits at the end of the season, and has told his number two to proceed as though there will be no change in ownership. He said: "I honestly have no inclination what way things will go. Despite the length of time this has been going on for, that was the first time I met him. "He wanted to know how the squad is. He knows I'm leaving, so he won't ask me about the future - all he wanted to know was how I saw the current situation. Now he has to go away and continue the financial aspects; I have no idea what they will be. "It should be obvious to everyone there would have to be a continuing downturn if there is no change. So it will be a hell of a task for Ally if there is no change."
