Smith sad to wave goodbye to Champions League

Walter Smith admits he will miss managing Rangers in the Champions League after their final Group C game against Bursaspor in Turkey ended in a 1-1 draw to confirm the Light Blues' participation in the Europa League in the new year. The Ibrox boss, who will step down at the end of the season to be replaced by assistant Ally McCoist, watched Kenny Miller score his 19th goal of the season for the Gers at the Bursa Ataturk stadium to give the visitors the interval lead. However, the Scottish champions were forced to defend for most of the second half and in the 79th minute Sercan Yildirim stabbed the ball past Allan McGregor to give the Turkish club their first point in Group C. Asked about his feelings following his last Champions League game, Smith, perhaps half in jest, said: "How do you know there won't be another one?" - then continued when the question was put in a Rangers context: "I will miss them because regardless of results, good or bad, it's a competition that you love being involved in. "Some seasons it can go well for you and sometimes it's an extremely difficult environment to play in. "But overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed it."
