Smith chasing loan recruits

Rangers manager Walter Smith is hoping to recruit two players on loan until the end of the season but he does not expect cash to be available in spite of Kenny Miller's departure.

Miller - who was out of contract in the summer - joined Turkish outfit Bursaspor in a reported £400,000 deal on Thursday.

Smith said: "We've been looking around for a little while to find a couple of players we can bring in on loan until the end of the season. So far, we've not been successful. But we will continue to look and try to supplement our squad a little."

He added: "We've got the money to bring in a couple of players on loan but a transfer fee is probably outwith our capability at the moment."

Miller netted 22 goals this season but failed to agree a new deal with the Scottish champions before sealing his move to Turkey.

Smith added: "He's had a great influence on our team in the last few seasons and we're obviously disappointed to lose him."
