Smith calls for action

Former First Minister Henry McLeish will act as chairman of the Scottish Football Review Committee, the outcome of which could lead to some radical developments.[LNB]Smith has witnessed previous think-tanks in action during his time as a manager in the past, which he believes made little impact on the game.[LNB]And he now hopes the latest scheme will not prove to be a waste of time.[LNB]He said: "I would just like, if we are having another think-tank, that we act on some of the things that they find.[LNB]"To me, the football looks exactly the same as it was before we had the other three or four.[LNB]"So, if we are going to have one and we are going to make improvements through the findings, we should act on them.[LNB]"That's something we haven't been doing over the last three or four that I can remember having during my period in Scotland.[LNB]"I just hope it's not another one where we are wasting everyone's time."[LNB]Smith was asked whether he has time to ponder what changes he would make to improve the game north of the border and responded: "I'm only pondering one thing at the present moment."[LNB]Remaining at the summit of the Clydesdale Bank Premier League is, of course, his main priority after watching Rangers leapfrog Celtic into pole position on goal-difference last weekend.[LNB]He said: "It's nice to be at the top of the league but we are just operating in the same manner as we have been doing for the last period, where we have to win the games.[LNB]"That's the most important aspect. If people perceive that to be pressure, fine.[LNB]"But we have to handle it and we have to make sure we continue to do what we have been doing recently and play as well as we can and hope we can win at the same time.[LNB]"We've had a good response from everyone over the last couple of months and we've hit a good level of play.[LNB]"We have to carry that on and, if anything, try to raise it a little.[LNB]"We are happy where we are at the moment but we are under no illusions, we have to continue to do as well as we have been doing in recent months until the end of the season."[LNB]Next up is a Hamilton side vastly improved from the one who succumbed to a 7-1 defeat at Ibrox the last time the two clubs met.[LNB]Accies have transformed themselves from relegation fodder to top-six hopefuls and head into the clash at New Douglas Park having lost just one game in 2009.[LNB]Smith has warned Rangers fans not to expect another comprehensive victory like the one they enjoyed back in December.[LNB]"The circumstances of that match were totally different to what we are likely to experience tomorrow," he said.[LNB]"This game will be nothing like that.[LNB]"Our other two encounters with Hamilton this season haven't been like that so I don't see Saturday's being anything like that one at all."[LNB]Smith has been impressed by Hamilton's adjustment to life in the top flight, adding: "From the start of the season there has been a huge adjustment, both in terms of how they set out their team formation-wise and their whole attitude to taking part in the game is different.[LNB]"It has been a successful transition for them.[LNB]"You would expect a team in the first year to struggle a little bit, and they went through a little period of that, but the changes they have made to get them out of that have been very successful ones.[LNB]"It's been a really good bit of management from Billy Reid in that respect."[LNB][LNB] Rangers 2/5[LNB], Draw 10/3[LNB], Hamilton 8/1[LNB]
