Skipper wants thrilling finale

This time last year, Gers were in the hunt for an historic quadruple but suffered disappointment in the UEFA Cup final, before surrendering the championship to Celtic on the final day.[LNB]With the defending champions now preparing to head into the final five league games with only a single point advantage at the summit, another exciting finale to the campaign seems guaranteed.[LNB]"That's what you want," said Weir.[LNB]"Rangers as a football club should be involved in finishes like that and it's just important that we win it now."[LNB]The Scottish Cup holders also have another final to look forward to after defeating St Mirren to set up a meeting with Falkirk at Hampden on May 30.[LNB]"It's fantastic," said Weir.[LNB]"Rangers are a club who should be in cup finals and I think our record in that department has been very good.[LNB]"It's nice to add another one to the collection but obviously we want to go there and win it."[LNB]As in their last two league games, Rangers were out of the traps quickly against Saints, with Andrius Velicka opening the scoring in under two minutes.[LNB]But once again, they looked in danger of being pegged back by the opposition until goals in the last 25 minutes from Kris Boyd and Kenny Miller eventually snuffed out any hope of a comeback from the Paisley club.[LNB]"We probably got the goal too early," admitted Weir.[LNB]"St Mirren knew they had to come out and push, they kept us in our half and our possession wasn't good enough for long periods.[LNB]"But it's nice to win the tie however you do it.[LNB]"We got better as the game went on and to win a semi-final 3-0 is a big achievement and it's something that we've got to get a bit of credit for."[LNB]Boyd's strike saw him bring his tally to 100 goals since joining Rangers in January 2006 and 29 for this season alone.[LNB]"He is fantastic at what he does," said Weir.[LNB]"You can't take anything away from him. His record speaks for itself and we are delighted to have him."[LNB]The veteran defender also praised the efforts of Miller, who came off the bench to claim a goal of his own after being hampered by injury recently.[LNB]But the stand-in skipper warned competition for places would be tough between now and the end of the season, with several fringe players now staking a claim for a place in the team.[LNB]He told Rangers World: "It's nice to get a few players back and hopefully we will have a couple back for next week as well and we can start getting players back in.[LNB]"But the lads who have come in and taken their chance have done very well so it's going to be tough to move them."[LNB][LNB]
