SFL chief calls for cool heads

Scottish Football League president Jim Ballantyne has called for cool heads as member clubs prepare to decide the fate of newco Rangers.

The SFL board are meeting on Thursday to discuss the crisis facing Scottish football ahead of an anticipated vote next Thursday over the Ibrox club's application.

Scottish Football Association chief executive Stewart Regan on Wednesday night claimed the game faces a "slow, lingering death" if the newco club are not admitted to the Irn-Bru First Division following their rejection by the Scottish Premier League.

Regan fuelled expectations of an SPL2 breakaway when he said the SFA could not allow Rangers to be relaunched in the Third Division.

Airdrie chairman Ballantyne told STV: "We have a lot of thinking to do following everything that has happened in the last two days. "We are looking at everybody's opinions from our meeting on Tuesday.

"As far as I'm concerned it's a vote of the Scottish Football League clubs on what they wish to do with the SFL, and that's what the clubs will decide.

"There are things happening on the periphery and these will be noticed and may affect people's views or may not. I think just now is a time for cool heads."
