Saints fear faulty heating is to blame

Saturday lunchtime's SPL clash at McDiarmid Park was called off an hour before kick-off after parts of the pitch were deemed to be frozen.[LNB]The SPL will investigate the postponement, which angered many supporters, and Saints could be fined if they are found to have breached competition rules.[LNB]Brown told the Daily Record: "We're still not sure what's happened but I fear there's ice in our pipes at the ground.[LNB]"Around Christmas, we were around minus 16 at McDiarmid Park. Those pipes are supposed to be just over 200 millimetres into the ground but considering they were put in with just a plough that pulled them through - they could easily be 50mm above that.[LNB]"So if there's ice in the pipes and it's stopped the water going round, that's where the problem could lie. With undersoil heating, you heat the water to 42 degrees.[LNB]"To thaw ice at that temperature would take a bit of doing. There's obviously been a malfunction in our system."[LNB]Brown added: "This is a desperate apology from myself and St Johnstone to Rangers and supporters of both clubs.[LNB]"The game going off will cost us a six-figure sum because of everything that goes with a match of that size.[LNB]"I want to apologise to all the fans and we'll be very thorough in solving the problem as quickly as we can to ensure this never happens again."[LNB][LNB] Hibernian v St. Johnstone.
