RST - it's not 'FARE'

The Rangers Supporters Trust have backed the Football Against Racism in Europe organisation's core mission of tackling discrimination in football - but have demanded to see evidence that Rangers are not the only club being targeted.

The Scottish champions could be forced to play matches behind closed doors following UEFA disciplinary charges resulting from both legs of their Europa League tie against PSV Eindhoven.

RST chairman Stephen Smith said: "We are disappointed and concerned about UEFA's own investigatory and disciplinary procedures, where the word of a delegate specifically sent to watch a game appears to count for nothing if a fans organisation intervenes. I think that's a major worry."

He added: "All we are looking for is equality, consistency and transparency.

"We are not defending the indefensible but we want everybody to be treated in exactly the same way and held to the same standards. We have no problem with that at all.

"I don't see how much more the club can reasonably be expected to do.

"It has set out its opposition to racism and sectarianism and we have backed that and called on our members and other Rangers fans to behave in a way that is appropriate and brings credit to our football club.

"We are fairly concerned that another fans organisation, without coming anywhere near any of the organised Rangers supporters, like ourselves, have intervened. That's a concern for us. All we are looking for is equality and consistency.

"For example, where is this organisation in terms of tackling the widespread anti-Semitism that's taking place in Poland and Ukraine at the moment? Or the racism that is closer to home?"
