Rothen set for Rangers bow

The Scottish champions swooped to sign the winger in a surprise loan move from Paris Saint-Germain on transfer deadline day, after claiming on numerous occasions they would not be adding to their squad over the summer. Rothen was a star of Monaco's run to the 2004 Champions League final, his performances earning him a move that summer to PSG, and he was also a member of France's European Championship squads in 2004 and 2008. With such an impressive pedigree, expectations will be high and supporters look set to finally see him in action in the early kick-off at Fir Park on Saturday. "He certainly has a big chance," said assistant boss McCoist. "He has trained for a couple of days and has looked fine. "There are a couple of bits and pieces to be sorted there but I would certainly think he would be involved at the weekend." However, Kyle Lafferty remains unlikely to play any part after picking up a knee injury while on international duty with Northern Ireland. The striker limped out of the World Cup qualifier against Poland on Saturday after scoring a superb first half goal. He was forced to sit out Wednesday's 2-0 defeat to Slovakia and can expect to be sidelined again for the visit to Motherwell, having already missed the opening three SPL games through suspension. McCoist said: "I spoke to Kyle on Monday and on Tuesday and then I gave myself a day off on Wednesday. "I believe he is progressing very nicely. "He has seen the doc and has spoken to the physio. But I would have to say he is probably doubtful for Saturday." He added: "I watched him at the weekend and I thought he was absolutely superb. He was outstanding in the first half against Poland. "I watched the whole thing and it was another glorious failure for one of the home nations. "I thought they were magic against Poland. They deserved to win the game and should have won the game but lost a late goal as well." Rangers 8/13, Draw 13/5, Motherwell 5/1
