    Rangers extend huge SPL lead

    06 Mar 2010 - 17:07:41

Rangers' SPL title-charge gathered further momentum following a 3-1 success over St Mirren at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon.

However, the reigning champions had to show their battling qualities after Graham Carey handed the visitors a shock lead after 30 minutes.

Scotland international Lee McCulloch equalised just two minutes later before putting Walter Smith's men into the lead for the first time just 45 seconds after the re-start.

Nacho Novo secured the points by adding a third in the 78th minute.

The Glasgow giants are now a massive 13 points ahead of fierce rivals Celtic, who take a trip to Falkirk on Sunday.

Hibernian and Kilmarnock locked horns in the early kick-off in Edinburgh and it was the Easter Road outfit who grabbed all three points.

The game looked set to end all-square but Derek Riordan's intervention with just 12 minutes remaining turned the tables and the win has nudged them above Dundee United into third place.

The Terrors could regain their lofty position with a win against Hearts on Sunday.

Craig Brown has led Motherwell to another victory thanks to a late winner from John Sutton at St Johnstone.

His side broke the deadlock thanks to Jamie Murphy in the 12th minute but the hosts levelled up on the half hour through Steve Milne.

With the game edging towards a stalemate, up popped Sutton to fire the Fir Park outfit seven points ahead of sixth-placed Hearts.

Hamilton picked up a welcome point following a 1-1 draw with Aberdeen.

It could have been so much better after Flavio Paixao opened the scoring just after the hour mark but Zander Diamond restored parity, grabbing the equaliser with just 15 minutes remaining.
