Rangers warned over Goodwillie interest

Dundee United chairman Stephen Thompson has told Rangers they would be wasting their time bidding £750,000 for striker David Goodwillie.[LNB] Scotland Under-21 international Goodwillie, who was this week named Clydesdale Bank Young Player of the Year, has been linked with a summer switch to Ibrox.[LNB]But Thompson said: "We have had absolutely no contact from Rangers about David Goodwillie or any other player, that's the first thing I would say.[LNB]"Regarding the money being talked about, any club bidding that amount would be wasting their time because it would take a lot more than that to make us give a bid serious consideration.[LNB]"If that is all someone could offer, they should not bother, though I would stress the player is on a long-term contract and our wish is to keep him at Dundee United."[LNB]Thompson also responded to complaints about ticket and hospitality prices for next month's Scottish final.[LNB]Some fans have moaned about tickets costing as much as £35, but Thompson pointed out most adults will get into Hampden for £25, with children paying even less.[LNB]"Prices are maybe a touch high, but I know they are down on last year's final and we have secured 5,000 family section tickets with the promise of more if needed," Thompson said.[LNB]"And we are certainly not snubbing hospitality at Hampden. What we are doing, like we have always done for big games there, is put together a package that will involve us stopping at Parkhead on the way."[LNB]Meanwhile, manager Peter Houston believes Morgaro Gomis' forthcoming two-match ban will prove a blessing in disguise.[LNB]Senegal midfielder Gomis will miss the final two games of the SPL season against Hearts and Hibernian.[LNB]But Houston, whose side have already secured a Europa League spot, is confident that will ensure the 24-year-old is fresh for the cup final.[LNB]"Normally it's a blow when a player is banned for a couple of games but I have to say this is one I am not concerned about at all," Houston said in the Evening Telegraph.[LNB]"Morgaro has played a lot this season and it will do him no harm at all to have a wee break. The fact the two games he misses are only four days apart means he won't go a long time without playing.[LNB]"I'm sure it means, when he gets to Hampden, he'll be 100% and desperate to play well."[LNB]Gomis' fellow midfielder Scott Robertson is unlikely to feature in anything but a cameo role for the rest of the season as he continues his recovery from a long-term pelvic injury.[LNB]The 25-year-old made his comeback in Sunday's win at Motherwell and Houston said: "We won't be rushing him into anything and he is quite a way away from being considered for a full 90 minutes.[LNB]"It is great to have him back in the squad, though, and he is someone I will have on the bench when I think we could use him, and that would include the cup final."
