McCulloch worry for Rangers

Rangers skipper Lee McCulloch is rated as being just "50/50" to make Stuart McCall's squad for Sunday's Scottish Premiership play-off quarter-final second leg with Queen of the South.

The 37-year-old and defensive colleague Bilel Mohsni both missed last weekend's Palmerston opener with training-ground knocks but while Mohsni is back in contention for the Ibrox return, McCulloch's availability is still in doubt.

Definitely missing out for second leg are Seb Faure (knee), Kevin Mbabu (fitness issues), Gael Bigirimana (infection) and Shane Ferguson (knee).

Rangers were beaten on both of their regular season trips to Dumfries this term but avoided a third loss when Dean Shiels' late winner handed them a vital advantage ahead of the Glasgow return.

McCall knows James Fowler's side will come gunning for them at Ibrox but said: "As much as Queens will wind it up and make out that the first goal is all important, if we lose one it's not as if the tie is over.

"With the quality we have and if we defend soundly I will be confident we'll create opportunities, regardless of whether we lose the first goal or not."

Queen of the South will include the experienced Paul Burns in their squad if he passes a fitness test on his injured hip.

Chris Mitchell, who will be playing with Clyde next season, remains out with an injured toe, with manager James Fowler encouraging his Doonhamers to be positive.

Fowler said: "We have done well against Rangers all season so we can look forward to this second leg with confidence.

"They beat us last weekend, however we know it should have been a draw.

"Our performance in that game as well as against Rangers earlier in the season means that we can be confident of going there and doing what we need to do."
