Lee Hodson plans to bring German lessons to Rangers

Rangers defender Lee Hodson hopes he can use his German lessons in Govan.

The 25-year-old right-back played in Northern Ireland's 2-0 World Cup qualifying defeat to Germany earlier in the month.

After a night tussling with some of world's top players, he left Hanover with the top worn by Mario Gotze, whose extra-time strike sealed a 1-0 win over Argentina in the 2014 World Cup final in Brazil.

Hodson has been a bit-part player at Ibrox since signing in the summer but has featured in Rangers' last two games, the 1-0 Betfred Cup semi-final defeat to Celtic at Hampden Park and the 1-1 Ladbrokes Premiership draw with St Johnstone at Ibrox on Wednesday night, and he feels all the better for his most recent cap.

He said: "That was a great experience for me, to play against the world champions. You don't get to play against a team of that high calibre every day

"I got Gotze's shirt, a good one for the collection

"But it was hard. Julian Draxler started on the left but the rotation and freedom they have as a front four, one minute you are up against Draxler, then Gotze, Thomas Muller, they were all over the place.

"It was hard to know who you were playing against and it was a great experience for me and I enjoyed it.

"It was a great learning curve, to see where I am, see where I need to improve as player. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

"Obviously we didn't get the result we wanted but not a lot of teams in our group will take points in Germany.

"We went 2-0 down early but we showed our character and if we had got one back you never know what could have happened.

"We have two games in November, Azerbaijan at home and a friendly against Croatia.

"I need to keep working hard before the squad is announced and we will see what happens."

Hodson, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Kilmarnock, is looking for six points out of six against Killie and then Ross County before the next international break.

And although Celtic could go 10 points clear at the top of the table with a win at Aberdeen on Saturday lunchtime, the former Watford player is focused only on the fortunes of Rangers.

He said: "It is a long season and there are a lot of games left.

"People drop points so it is all about us. We will take it game by game and we will see where that takes us at the end of the season."

Kilmarnock boss Lee Clark will tell his players not to act like star-struck tourists at Ibrox on Saturday.

The former Newcastle and Sunderland midfielder was not enamoured to see his players reaching for their mobile phones to take photos at Celtic Park last month before the 6-1 thrashing in the Ladbrokes Premiership.

Clark wants his side to adopt a more business-like attitude when they face Rangers as they look to extend their unbeaten run to four games.

"I went to watch an Old Firm game there a few years ago and I am looking forward to going there the first time as a manager and hopefully I will come away successful," he said.

"You have to enjoy it but you only enjoy it if you get a positive result.

"I felt a little bit like we went to Celtic Park and we were a little bit touristy - the phones out, the cameras out, having a look at arena rather than getting in there and doing a job.

"We will be speaking about it, that we are not there to be taking selfies, taking pictures of the stadium and waiting for the opposition to swap shirts etc.

"You can do all that once you have won the game and got a result and we will stressing to the players we are there on business, we are there to get the job done."
