Rangers stars vow to make amends

The players left the pitch to jeers from their own supporters after slumping to a shock defeat to Inverness at Ibrox on Wednesday night, allowing Celtic to reclaim top spot in the SPL. Rangers now turn their attention to a different competition but Naismith is well aware that the expectations will be just as high heading into the quarter-final clash. "We let everybody down and the manager and the coaching staff have drilled it into us that it's not good enough," said the young forward. "Everyone will be on their toes and wanting to show that we won't be complacent. "All I can say to the fans is that the boys know it wasn't good enough and we will put on a good performance on Sunday and a very entertaining one." Naismith is relishing the prospect of another game so quickly and is more than happy to put league business to one side for the time being, claiming there will be plenty more drama to come in the title race. "We just need to try to get back on track," he said. "We let ourselves down on Wednesday and everybody at the club knows it. "It's a vital time of the season to be dropping points so we have to get back on track with another game quickly. "We've got time on our side, there are games left. The boys know we can't drop any more points. "We need to knuckle down and get the results. There are a lot of twists and turns to come and you have to give credit to the other teams, especially those in the top six. "They have made it harder for the Old Firm." Naismith believes Hamilton's talented youngsters also deserve praise for their efforts this season after taking the SPL newboys to within touching distance of the top six, as well as a Scottish Cup quarter-final. "Some of their players deserve recognition," he said. "They have probably come into the league thinking of staying up as the main priority. "Now they are pushing for the top six and that's credit to everybody at the club. "They have made some good signings and they have good young players already there who are pushing ahead this season much further than they thought they would."
